The Billing team plays an essential role in supporting the firm’s attorneys, clients, and overall financial operations. We are seeking an experienced Billing Manager to lead a team of approximately 12 Billing Specialists and oversee the firm’s billing and e-billing operations.

The Opportunity
The Billing Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day billing function, ensuring invoices are accurate, timely, and compliant with client requirements. This position reports to the Controller and provides leadership to a team of Billing Specialists, all of whom are responsible for e-billing.
The ideal candidate will bring strong law firm billing and e-billing experience, along with the ability to lead a team and work effectively with attorneys, clients, accounting, and firm leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day billing operations for the firm.
- Supervise, train, develop, and evaluate a team of approximately 12 Billing Specialists.
- Oversee monthly billing, prebills, final invoices, adjustments, and client billing requirements.
- Manage the firm’s e-billing processes and maintain the eBilling Hub.
- Ensure billing systems accurately reflect client rates, billing guidelines, and matter-specific instructions.
- Partner with attorneys, clients, and internal teams to resolve billing discrepancies and account issues.
- Work closely with the Office of General Counsel to ensure compliance with outside counsel guidelines and client billing requirements.
- Develop billing reports and audit processes to improve accuracy and timeliness.
- Identify opportunities to streamline billing processes and implement improvements.
- Ensure proper expense coding and coordinate with Accounting regarding appropriate allocation within the firm’s accounting system.
- Maintain accurate billing and financial records in accordance with legal and accounting requirements.
- Monitor industry trends, technology, and best practices related to legal billing and e-billing.
- Serve as a backup to the Controller and provide support to the broader accounting team as needed.
- Ensure compliance with firm policies, procedures, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by firm leadership.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional billing experience required.
- Law firm billing experience strongly preferred.
- Hands-on e-billing experience is required.
- At least 2 years of experience supervising or managing billing professionals preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of legal billing practices, accounting principles, and client billing requirements.
- Experience with Elite/3E and E-Billing Hub strongly preferred.
- Experience with Aderant and BillBlast will also be considered.
- Familiarity with e-billing platforms such as Legal Tracker, Tymetrix 360, CounselLink, Passport, Ascent, or similar systems is a plus.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook skills.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced professional environment.
- Demonstrated experience with process improvement and team development.
- Comfortable working collaboratively with attorneys, clients, accounting professionals, and firm leadership.
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours occasionally when necessary to meet critical deadlines.
- Occasional travel may be required.
