Salary/Payrate: $85K-110K depending on experience with bonus and benefits

Work Environment: Hybrid (2 of days WFH) after initial 90-day training period

Term: Fulltime

Referral Fee: AMS will pay $500 should the person you refer gets hired

 


Job Description:

Our client is seeking a full-time, detail-oriented Collections Paralegal with a minimum of 7 years of litigation and debt recovery experience. The ideal candidate possesses deep familiarity with both Virginia and Washington, D.C. court systems, local rules, and post-judgment enforcement mechanisms. The Collections Paralegal will support our client’s legal team by managing a robust portfolio of collection accounts from pre-litigation through post-judgment recovery, ensuring full compliance with federal and state regulations.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Organizing and coordinating a high volume of collection matters, with 100+ matters per month.
  • Drafting demand letters, summons, complaints, affidavits of debt, discovery requests/responses, motions, and post-judgment remedies, including garnishments, liens, writs of execution, and debtor interrogatories.
  • Monitoring dockets, court deadlines, and case statuses across Virginia state courts, D.C. courts, and bankruptcy courts.
  • Communicating effectively with debtors, clients, opposing counsel, and the court both orally and in writing.
  • Keeping client status reports updated and accurately and timely communicating updates to HOA/CA clients.
  • Taking a lead role in all clerical and paralegal responsibilities related to the collections practice group.
  • Providing light overflow support to the firm as needed, including filing, reception coverage, or backup support.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proficient knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Virginia and D.C. debt collection laws, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Code (Chapters 7, 11, and 13).
  • Ability to ensure all collection and communication activities strictly adhere to the FDCPA, Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and applicable state-level consumer protection laws.
  • Experience with legal software tools such as LexisNexis, Accurint, and PACER, as well as familiarity with court electronic filing systems in Virginia and D.C.
  • BA or BS degree from an accredited college or university preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Paralegal certificate and/or certification from an internationally recognized compliance body preferred. (Our client is flexible on this requirement.)
  • Experience in a law firm or corporate legal environment in which the candidate performed some of the responsibilities outlined above.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
