JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The HR Manager is responsible for a wide range of human resources activities for both lawyers and staff, including employee relations, strategic planning, policy interpretation, onboarding and offboarding and general coordination for the office. The HR Manager serves as a consultant to the local management team on human resources related issues, anticipates various HR-related needs, and seeks to develop integrated solutions. The HR Manager directly supervises Paralegals, Legal Practice Coordinators, and Legal Support Specialists, and is responsible for staff performance, personnel practices, policies, and employment laws. The HR Manager will report to the Regional Director of Administration, be a member of the management team and will assist with various duties as assigned for the management team. Due to the nature of Human Resources Management, this role is expected to work in the office full-time. 


Representative Key Responsibilities

  • Provide employee relations guidance and feedback to all personnel.
  • Counsel managers and supervisors on staff performance, personnel practices, internal policies, and applicable employment laws. Document and participate in meetings related to disciplinary matters.
  • Lead the staff recruitment process in partnership with hiring managers, including assessing staffing needs, developing job descriptions, interviewing candidates, and preparing offers of employment.
  • Manage the new-hire onboarding process, including scheduling and conducting orientation programs for both attorneys and staff.
  • Oversee performance management processes, including goal setting, feedback, and staff compensation recommendations.
  • Manage the exit process for departing staff, including completion of required paperwork and conducting exit interviews.
  • Communicate Firm policies and initiatives, respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs, and advise management on the appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Access, maintain, and oversee employee data within the Firm’s HRIS, including data changes related to compensation, leaves, disability, and terminations.
  • Coordinate and track all leaves of absence and represent the Firm at personnel-related hearings or investigations when required.
  • Plan and coordinate local office events in collaboration with the management team.
  • Serve as a liaison between staff and other support departments to facilitate communication and develop solutions to operational challenges.
  • Recommend promotions, demotions, assignment changes, and disciplinary actions, up to and including termination.
  • Oversee and support the continuous feedback program for staff.
  • Stay informed of current HR legislation and industry trends to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws and best practices.
  • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to improve departmental efficiency and service delivery.
  • Assist the management team with special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience required; HR certifications are preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in human resources management or senior HR generalist roles.
  • Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with HRIS platforms and related systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Highly organized, efficient professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and demonstrates sound judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and remain dependable under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including a professional presence on the phone and video conferences
  • Creative problem-solver with the ability to think critically and outside the box.
