As a Litigation Paralegal, you will play a critical role in supporting our attorneys through all aspects of the litigation process, including case management, document preparation, legal research, and trial support. This is a full-time position for mainly California matters, requiring a thorough understanding of state and federal court rules, electronic filings, and best practices for litigation management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with the preparation, filing, and service of legal documents in state and federal courts, ensuring strict compliance with court rules and deadlines.
- Manage all phases of discovery, including the collection, review, and production of documents, and coordinate with clients and opposing counsel.
- Conduct legal research, cite-checking, and summarize case law, statutes, and other legal materials as requested.
- Prepare pleadings, motions, subpoenas, discovery requests and responses, and correspondence.
- Organize, maintain, and update case files and trial binders, both electronic and physical, using document management systems.
- Assist with trial preparation, including creation of trial exhibits, witness lists, and trial notebooks, and provide on-site support during trial as needed.
- Coordinate and schedule depositions, hearings, meetings, and court appearances.
- Monitor case deadlines.
- Proofread and edit documents for accuracy, grammar, and style consistency.
- Communicate effectively with clients, experts, vendors, and court personnel.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a paralegal in a litigation environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of California and federal litigation laws and processes is required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional paralegal certification or associate’s/bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with electronic court filings, particularly with California and federal courts, including ECF/PACER systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Exceptional proofreading, grammar, and writing skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience using iManage or similar electronic document management systems.
- Experience with Relativity.
- Trial experience.
- Familiarity with Insurance Coverage and Insurance Defense practice groups.
- Experience with commercial litigation matters.
