Salary/Payrate: $45K-55K + annual bonus and benefits
Work Environment: Onsite - Paid parking in the building
Work Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (1-hour lunch)
Term: Permanent / Fulltime
Referral Fee: AMS will pay $500 should the person you refer gets hired
Job Description:
A well-established law firm in Norfolk is seeking an experienced Paralegal / Legal Assistant to support two attorneys, including a senior partner. This role offers exposure to a diverse practice including traffic, civil and criminal litigation, real estate, collections, and personal injury matters.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced legal environment with competing deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide full administrative and paralegal support to two attorneys, including a senior partner
- Assist with matters involving traffic, civil and criminal litigation, real estate, collections, and personal injury
- Draft and prepare legal documents and correspondence
- Manage attorney calendars and ensure accurate docketing of deadlines
- Assist with the discovery process, including organizing and reviewing materials
- File pleadings and documents in General District and Circuit Courts
- Maintain organized client files and documentation
- Communicate professionally with clients, courts, and outside parties
- Handle multiple matters simultaneously while prioritizing based on deadlines and attorney needs
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of legal assistant/paralegal experience required (5+ years preferred)
- Strong understanding of the litigation discovery process
- Experience with General District and Circuit Court filing procedures
- Knowledge of federal court procedures is a plus, but not required
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong typing skills and professional phone presence
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong time management and the ability to shift quickly between multiple matters in a fast-paced setting
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and commitment to client confidentiality
