This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in intellectual property law who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You’ll play a key role in supporting our attorneys with U.S. and international patent, copyright and trademark filings, docket management, and IP portfolio maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and file U.S. and international patent, copyright and trademark applications
- Prepare, finalize, and file documents at the USPTO in U.S. provisional, utility, design and PCT patent applications and foreign national stage applications (i.e., transmittals, declarations, power of attorneys, assignments, information disclosure statements, maintenance fee payments, etc.)
- Manage foreign counsel correspondence and document filings for foreign patent applications
- Manage IP docketing systems and track deadlines for filings, renewals, and responses
- Maintain attorney docket for both U.S. and foreign patent, copyright and trademark matters
- Conduct preliminary trademark searches and assist with trademark screening and clearance reviews
- Conduct ownership, lien, assignment and security interest searches for U.S. and foreign patent, copyright and trademark assets in connection with security agreements and UCC-1 filings
- Maintain accurate records of IP assets and assist with portfolio audits
- Audit and manage portfolios to ensure patent, copyright and trademark applications comply with the prosecution process, rules and regulations of applicable governmental agency
- Draft and review legal correspondence, reports, and other documents
- Prepare and finalize client correspondence
- Assist with internal review and analyzation of documents
- Support litigation or enforcement activities related to IP, as needed
- Assist with IP-related agreements (e.g., NDAs, POAs, licensing, and assignments)
- Provide general administrative support to attorneys
Qualifications
- Minimum of four (4) years of IP paralegal experience in a law firm
- One of the following criteria is strongly preferred: (1) Bachelor’s degree; (2) Paralegal certificate or Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies; or (3) Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) designation
- Familiarity with USPTO and international IP filing procedures
- Proficiency with IP docketing software
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
