Job Title: Legal Secretary (Defense Litigation)
Location: Richmond, VA 23219
Salary/Payrate: $50-80K (W2), depending on experience with benefits
Schedule: 37.5 hours/week
Hours: 8:00–5:00 or 8:30–5:30
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (100% onsite first 90 days, then 1 day remote)
Term: 6-month contract with potential to convert to permanent
Parking: Paid by the firm
Referral Fee: AMS will pay $500 should the person you refer gets hired
A busy, well-established litigation defense firm is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary to support a high-performing group of attorneys. This is a fast-paced office with a heavy litigation workload and a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in structured but high-volume settings, can manage multiple priorities, and enjoys being a true right-hand to attorneys.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide full administrative and legal support to up to 5 attorneys
- Manage complex calendars, deadlines, and scheduling
- Handle state and federal e-filing
- Draft, revise, and proofread legal documents and correspondence
- Coordinate depositions, meetings, and travel as needed
- Maintain organized electronic files and case materials
- Assist with time entry and billing coordination (centralized support in place)
- Communicate with clients, courts, and internal teams
- Support docketing and litigation workflows
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of legal secretary experience, with strong litigation exposure
- Proficiency with e-filing in state and federal courts
- Strong typing and document formatting skills (65+ WPM preferred)
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple attorneys and deadlines
- Comfortable working in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
- Professional, adaptable, and able to work with a variety of personalities
- Strong communication and proofreading skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
