Salary/Payrate: $140,000–$180,000 annually + bonus and AWESOME benefits!!!

Work Environment: Hybrid (1 day WFH after 90 days)

Term: Permanent

Job Description:


Role Overview The Financial Controller oversees the firm's day-to-day accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective controls, and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the Managing Partner, the Controller manages financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, trust accounting, and banking activities, and provides financial analysis to support firm operations and planning.

This role works closely with the Managing Partner and leadership team to improve financial visibility, strengthen processes, and support informed decision-making. As the firm grows, the Controller plays an integral role in building financial infrastructure, supporting operational efficiency, and enabling sustainable growth.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Financial Operations and Reporting

  • Lead all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, billing, and trust accounting
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure timely, accurate payroll processing, tax withholdings, and required payroll filings
  • Oversee billing operations, including invoice review, billing cycles, and coordination with attorneys to support accurate and timely client billing
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and firm performance metrics


Budgeting, Forecasting and Financial Analysis

  • Develop and manage firm budgets in collaboration with leadership
  • Prepare financial forecasts, variance analyses, and profitability reporting
  • Analyze financial results to identify trends, operational risks, and areas of growth
  • Provide clear, actionable financial insights to support leadership decision‑making


Banking, Treasury and Cash Management

  • Manage firm banking operations and treasury functions
  • Review and process wire transfers and electronic fund transactions in accordance with firm authorization protocols
  • Oversee bank reconciliations and cash management practices


Internal Controls, Compliance and Risk Management

  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard firm assets
  • Ensure compliance with trust accounting rules, tax requirements, and applicable regulatory and ethical standards
  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, financial personnel, regulators, and other legal and tax professionals
  • Ensure timely completion of all required filings, reports, and financial obligations



Leadership and Firm Collaboration

  • Partner with firm leadership to scale accounting systems, policies, and processes in alignment with growth strategies
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff and/or outsourced accounting resources
  • Support compensation planning, partner distributions, and financial planning initiatives
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and best practices



QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE



Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Active CPA license
  • 5+ years of accounting or financial management experience
  • Experience managing end‑to‑end payroll and banking transactions
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks
  • Experience working with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial information



Preferred

  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Familiarity with legal billing systems such as Clio or similar platforms
  • Knowledge of law firm accounting and trust accounting compliance requirements
