Overview
A highly regarded law firm is seeking a Counsel or Junior Partner to join its Commercial Litigation practice in either Tysons Corner, Virginia or Bethesda, Maryland. This is an outstanding opportunity for an accomplished litigator looking to grow an existing practice within a collaborative, entrepreneurial firm.
The ideal candidate will have a portable book of business of approximately $200,000 and a strong background handling sophisticated commercial litigation matters. The firm is prepared to supplement the candidate's practice with existing work, making this an attractive opportunity for someone seeking additional platform support while continuing to expand their client base.
In addition to managing their own matters, the successful candidate will oversee litigation handled by associates, provide strategic guidance, and work closely with partners on complex business disputes.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle sophisticated commercial litigation matters from inception through resolution.
- Develop litigation strategy, oversee discovery, motion practice, depositions, mediation, trial preparation, and appeals as needed.
- Manage and expand an existing client portfolio while fostering long-term client relationships.
- Supervise and mentor associate attorneys, providing strategic oversight and case management.
- Assume responsibility for existing firm matters and collaborate with partners on complex litigation.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to business clients on litigation risk and dispute resolution.
- Participate in business development and cross-selling opportunities across the firm's practice groups.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active Bar admission in Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia (or ability to practice in the applicable jurisdiction).
- Significant experience handling sophisticated commercial litigation matters.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex litigation.
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior attorneys.
- Excellent advocacy, negotiation, legal writing, and client management skills.
- Strong business development mindset with the ability to cultivate and maintain client relationships.
Preferred Experience
- Portable book of business of approximately $200,000.
- Experience managing multiple complex commercial litigation matters simultaneously.
- Leadership experience supervising associates and litigation teams.
- Existing relationships within the regional business community are a plus.
- Interest in growing a long-term practice within a collaborative law firm.
