Under the supervision of the Senior Manager of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist provides functional support across a variety of HR disciplines for attorneys, legal support staff, and administrative personnel across a multi-state footprint. This role ensures HR policy compliance, supports performance management processes, and is responsible for administering the leave of absence process. This position requires in-office support and is eligible for a flexible hybrid-remote work schedule after an initial period of training.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with Firm policies and federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Researches and drafts HR policies and procedures and monitors firmwide adherence.
- Identifies regulatory updates and communicates necessary changes to leadership.
- Administers leave of absence programs and coordinates with state-specific benefits.
- Oversees background check processes and manages vendor relationships.
- Conducts HR orientation for new hires and ensures onboarding consistency.
- Supports administration of annual performance evaluation cycles.
- Advises leaders and staff on policy matters and employee relations.
- Reviews and approves job descriptions for accuracy and consistency.
- Participates in compensation surveys and performs compensation analyses.
- Administers I-9 processing and E-Verify compliance.
- Conducts exit interviews and shares feedback-driven recommendations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of HR principles and employment laws at the national and state level.
- Displays proficiency in leave administration across jurisdictions.
- Maintains advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Manages multiple priorities with high attention to detail.
- Excels in both independent work and team collaboration in a fast-paced environment.
- Exercises sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality in all interactions.
- Communicates professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrates ability to manage complex issues and tasks simultaneously.
- Must be able to travel as necessary and work 40+ hours per week as needed.
- Ability to remain both mobile and stationary during the workday, lift up to 15 pounds, and operate standard office equipment.
Experience and Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field is required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Human Resources, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
