Job Description
We are seeking an experienced California Labor & Employment Attorney to advise employers on a broad range of workplace, employment, and labor-law matters. The attorney will counsel clients on compliance with California and federal employment laws, manage employment disputes and litigation, and provide practical legal guidance on workplace policies and employee relations.
The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of California employment law, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to provide strategic, business-oriented advice in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise employers on California and federal labor and employment laws and regulations.
- Counsel clients regarding wage-and-hour compliance, employee classification, meal and rest periods, overtime, and payroll practices.
- Advise on hiring, onboarding, discipline, termination, layoffs, leaves of absence, accommodations, and workplace investigations.
- Draft and review employment agreements, offer letters, employee handbooks, workplace policies, separation agreements, and other employment-related documents.
- Advise on compliance with California-specific requirements, including the California Labor Code, FEHA, CFRA, PAGA, and applicable wage orders.
- Represent employers in employment litigation, administrative proceedings, and agency matters, as applicable.
- Handle or assist with claims involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage-and-hour violations, and related employment disputes.
- Conduct and advise on workplace investigations and risk assessments.
- Monitor changes in California and federal employment law and communicate material developments to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Develop practical strategies to minimize employment-related legal and business risks.
- Work collaboratively with HR professionals, executives, business leaders, and outside counsel.
- Manage multiple matters efficiently while maintaining high standards of legal work and client service.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in California and in good standing.

[3–7+] years of labor and employment law experience, depending on seniority.
- Strong knowledge of California employment laws and federal labor and employment laws.
- Experience advising employers and/or representing clients in employment disputes.
- Excellent legal research, writing, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Sound professional judgment and ability to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice.
- Strong interpersonal and client-service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with California wage-and-hour matters and PAGA claims.
- Experience defending discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful-termination claims.
- Experience before agencies such as the California Civil Rights Department (CRD), California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE), and U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
- Experience conducting workplace investigations.
- Experience drafting employee handbooks, employment agreements, and workplace policies.
- Labor relations or traditional labor-law experience, including NLRB matters, collective bargaining, or union-related issues.
- Experience representing clients in state or federal court.
