Our client, a leading law firm in Des Moines, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Tax Attorney with an LL.M. in Taxation (or CPA) to join its expanding tax practice. This role provides the opportunity to work on a diverse range of sophisticated matters, including corporate and partnership taxation, employment tax, nonprofit compliance, tax controversy at both federal and state levels, and ERISA-related issues.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional academic credentials, strong analytical abilities, and a genuine interest in guiding clients through complex tax challenges impacting businesses, individuals, and exempt organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise clients on employment-related tax issues, including executive compensation, payroll taxes, and worker classification.
- Provide tax structuring and compliance support for corporate transactions, mergers, acquisitions, and reorganizations.
- Counsel clients on partnership tax matters, including entity formation, allocations, and distributions.
- Assist nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations with formation, governance, qualification, and ongoing compliance.
- Deliver ERISA-related tax guidance on qualified plan issues, benefit design, and fiduciary obligations.
- Conduct in-depth legal research and draft client advisories, memoranda, and supporting documentation.
- Review and draft contracts, policies, and corporate documents with tax-related provisions.
- Collaborate with colleagues across practice areas, including employment, corporate, and litigation.
- Stay current with federal and state tax law developments, assessing their impact on clients.
Qualifications:
- LL.M. in Taxation (or CPA credential).
- J.D. and active membership in the Iowa State Bar.
- Strong knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code, ERISA, and tax laws impacting businesses and nonprofits.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
