Client is seeking a Litigation Paralegal to support their Eminent Domain, Environment & Land Use and other litigation-focused groups. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, anticipates attorney and client needs and thrives when faced with multiple priorities with competing deadlines. The role will provide support from case inception through trial and post-trial proceedings, including appeals. This position will be hybrid (onsite 2+ days per week) in our Orange County office and reports to the Senior Practice Support Services Director.

 



QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, is required
  • Paralegal certificate required
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience as a litigation paralegal
  • Familiarity with Eminent Domain is a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and coordinate multiple projects
  • Exceptional grammar, spelling and proofreading skills are a must
  • Must have the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Superior communication skills and the ability to effectively engage with clients, attorneys and court personnel at all levels
  • Proven ability to meet strict deadlines under significant time constraints
  • Able to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, while maintaining a high degree of professionalism and client service orientation
  • A commitment to deliver the highest quality service to internal and external customers
  • Availability for occasional off-site travel (including trial) as required
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule and with overtime as required

 



RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Discovery & Case Support:

  • Support all phases of litigation matters (complaint, discovery, trial and appeal), ensuring deadlines are met and processes run smoothly
  • Provide specialized support for Eminent Domain matters, including property research, arranging service of process, tracking property status and other nuanced work related to Eminent Domain
  • Leverage document review tools (including Relativity) and case management software for document review and organization
  • Support the preparation and filing of pleadings, motions and other documents in state and federal courts, including extensive exhibit preparation
  • Prepare attorneys for upcoming depositions, including identifying key documents and prospective exhibits
  • Assist with post-trial motions and appellate filings
  • Communicate effectively with client technical and information technology support team and vendors to support case strategy
  • Collaborate and communicate with case teams and department management on deadlines, project challenges and overall project status

 


Trial Support:

  • Prepare trial binders, appendices, exhibits, witness files and coordinate logistics for hearings and trials
  • Attend and support trials and hearings
  • Present electronically at trial and hearings using OnCue, PowerPoint and/or other tools

 


Additional responsibilities:

  • Participate in Firm and attorney team meetings
  • Document project details in the applicable tracking systems
  • Accurately and thoroughly track all time in appropriate time tracking systems and create accurate descriptions of the work performed for client bills
  • Maintain annual billable requirements
