JOB DESCRIPTION
The Litigation Paralegal works closely with attorneys on a full spectrum of clients within the general litigation and ERISA practice groups.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The building and construction industry exemption.
- Transactions to evade or avoid withdrawal liability.
- Successor, alter ego, and single-employer liability.
- Partial withdrawals (70% declines, bargaining outs, facility takeouts).
- Calculation of withdrawal liability.
- Controlled group liability.
- Interplay between ERISA and Bankruptcy Code.
- Enforcement of "pay now, dispute later" rule.
- Laches.
- Recover delinquent contributions from active employers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school or equivalent.
- Three (3) or more years of experience working as a Paralegal in a related area of law.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with the ability to create, edit, and format complex documents and spreadsheets.
- Strong proficiency in Docusign and Adobe.
- Active Notary is beneficial
- Experience with an electronic document management system like iManage.
- Experience with a billing and timekeeping software like Aderant.
- Experience with Relativity, CaseMap, TrialMap, or Trial Director.
- Experience with billable hours expectation.
- Federal court experience.
- Experience with clients in trades like Boilermaker, Ironworkers, and Steelworkers.
- Experience supporting practices that deal with withdrawal liability, delinquent benefit contributions, fiduciary claims, asset and stock sales, employment Law, ERISA matters.
