Job Title: Litigation Legal Administrative Assistant (Defense Only)

Location: New Orleans LA 70163

Salary/Payrate: $70K-$75K annually, bonus and AWESOME benefits!!!

Work Environment: Onsite

Term: Permanent / Fulltime

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Ideal candiates will have Asbestos and/or Toxic Tort experience

 

Defense Litigation experience is a must have for this position

 

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to attorneys and paralegals.
  • Prepare, edit, format, proofread, and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • File documents in State and Federal courts (electronic and traditional).
  • Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit binders, witness files, and related materials.
  • Maintain and organize case files according to firm protocols, including saving documents and emails in the document management system.
  • Manage attorney calendars, including recording and tracking case deadlines, hearings, depositions, mediations, meetings, and conference room reservations.
  • Arrange attorney travel and prepare itineraries.
  • Process attorney expense reports and check requests.
  • Receive, route, and process incoming and outgoing mail, invoices, deliveries, and fax/scan requests for assigned attorneys.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, vendors, and firm staff.
  • Enter and revise attorney time entries in accordance with firm guidelines.
  • Assist with workload balancing across the office, including providing interim coverage for other legal assistants during absences.

  

Skills:

  • Seasoned professional with a minimum of 3+ years legal secretarial experience, preferably in defense litigation
  • Typing speed of 70+ wpm and excellent accuracy, grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills
  • Thorough knowledge of legal formats
  • Substantial experience with electronic and non-electronic filings in State & Federal Courts
  • Ability to work well with others, and communicate effectively with attorneys & staff
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail a must
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (particularly Word and Outlook)
  • Knowledge and/or familiarity with a document management system (Filesite/iManage)
  • Knowledge and/or familiarity with Adobe Acrobat for handling PDF files
  • Familiarity with digital dictation
