This position is heavily focused on Tax litigation and is seeking that experience first and foremost. Advanced litigation experience will also be considered.
Job Description:
Position Summary
Litigation Paralegal provides comprehensive legal and administrative support to attorneys throughout all phases of litigation, including pre-trial, trial, and post-trial proceedings. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced legal environment. The position may also support tax related matters, including IRS examinations and administrative appeals, as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Case & Litigation Support
- Assist attorneys with all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motions, trial preparation, and appeals
- Draft, format, proofread, and file legal documents in accordance with court rules and deadlines, including Tax Court–specific filings where applicable
- Prepare and manage discovery materials, including interrogatories, requests for production, subpoenas, and responses
- Organize, review, and summarize documents, deposition transcripts, financial records, and other case materials
Court Filings & Deadlines
- File pleadings and motions electronically via state, federal, and U.S. Tax Court e-filing systems
- Maintain litigation calendars and docket deadlines; monitor court schedules and ensure timely compliance
- Trial & Hearing Preparation
- Assist with trial and hearing preparation, including exhibit binders, witness lists, trial notebooks, and courtroom logistics
- Coordinate with court personnel, court reporters, expert witnesses, and opposing counsel
Client & Attorney Support
- Communicate professionally with clients, court personnel, and third parties as directed
- Maintain accurate and organized case files (electronic and physical)
- Track billable time and assist with matter administration as required
Qualifications & Experience:
Required
- Paralegal certificate from an accredited program
- Minimum of 3 years of litigation paralegal experience
- Strong knowledge of civil litigation procedures and court rules
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and legal case management systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
Preferred
- Experience with U.S. Tax Court or state tax tribunal proceedings
- Familiarity with tax-related litigation, financial records, and supporting documentation
- Prior experience assisting with IRS examinations, audits, or administrative appeals, including managing document production, tracking correspondence, and supporting counsel throughout the examination or appeals process, is a plus
- Experience with state and federal courts
- Knowledge of e-discovery platforms and document management systems
